Si Se Puede
Peg Duddy is the phenomenal woman behind Lawrence's amazing afterschool program, Si Se Puede (Yes, We Can). Located in the Tower Hill area Merrimack Courts Housing Project, Si Se Puede is providing excellent child care and top-flight academic and enrichment opportunities of the highest quality to Lawrence's poorest children. Si, Se Puede's mentoring program also pairs low income students from local high schools with students from Phillips Academy. These high school students build bridges across their own differences while they work together in the afterschool program.
Bread and Roses Housing
We read daily about the housing crisis that most heavily impacts low-income people. Yet in 20 years of operation, Bread and Roses Housing has been creating beautiful, energy-efficient homes for purchase by low-income families without even one foreclosure! How do they do this? Through committed collaborations with community partners like banks, contractors, municipal government and more, proving so beautifully that working together, change is both possible and effective. Meet Mary Marra and Lidia Rivera Garcia, the extraordinary women who make all of this happen.
