THE LENNY ZAKIM FUND

WHAT DOES THE LENNY ZAKIM FUND DO?

The Lenny Zakim Fund provides financial support, technical assistance and networking opportunities to individuals and grassroots organizations seeking:

  • to promote secular and religious educational efforts
  • to promote the Jewish tradition of social justice and programs supporting civil and human rights
  • to combat illiteracy and poverty
  • to support anti-violence initiatives, and
  • to advance the causes of medical research and health care.

REACHING BELOW THE RADAR SCREEN

The mission of The Lenny Zakim Fund is to identify, listen to, support and connect grassroots community organizations and programs operating "below the radar screen" of large charitable groups and government grants. The Lenny Zakim Fund provides assistance to those who demonstrate the will and potential to make a difference, but lack the necessary resources. As a reflection of Lenny Zakim’s personal ideals, The Fund is especially interested in supporting groups involved in constructive coalition building across race, religious and ethnic lines.

SMALL GRANTS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

Grants from The Lenny Zakim Fund are moderate in size, ranging from $1,000 to $15,000. It was Lenny’s belief that grants of this size, given to the right organizations and used in the right way, can make a tremendous difference.

These grants become the catalysts that help such organizations achieve their goals and become role models in their community. In this way, The Fund generates results that are far-reaching and effective. In addition, membership in The Lenny Zakim Fund community creates an opportunity to network with other Fund recipients, share information and expertise, provide moral support, and foster collaborative relationships.

THE LENNY ZAKIM FUND INSTITUTES

Twice a year, The Fund sponsors free informational programs (Institutes) designed to help grant recipients develop their capacity building skills and benefit from the networking opportunities inherent in The Lenny Zakim Fund community.

The Board solicits input from grant recipients and Board members alike in developing content, shaping and leading the Institute programs. Recent Institutes have included workshops in public relations, fund raising, board development and strategic planning.
